Representative Litigation Matters

  • Petrotel, Inc. v. Yukos Oil Company (International Arbitration, Moscow, Russia) – Ravji was lead trial counsel for a premier oil and gas consulting company that is a leader in oil and gas exploration and production worldwide. The dispute involved a breach of contract pursuant to which the client was owed over $11 million in consulting fees. Ravji successfully obtained the full outstanding balance owed to the client through artful negotiation without engaging in the adversarial process.

  • Naseer Nayani v. Horseshoe Casino (Federal District Court for the Northern District of Texas) – Ravji was lead trial counsel for a patron of the casino in a dispute arising from the casino securing a defective default judgment against the patron in Louisiana that negatively impacted the patron’s business credit worthiness causing the patron to lose a lucrative real estate investment opportunity overseas. Ravji, after successfully subjecting Horseshoe Casino to personal jurisdiction in the State of Texas, was able to secure an out-of-court settlement for the full amount of damages suffered by the patron plus attorneys’ fees and allowable court costs.

  • Unicon International (Pvt) Limited, et al. v. Walls Industries, Inc. (Federal District Court for the Northern District of Texas) – Ravji was lead trial counsel representing two of the largest garment manufacturers in Pakistan against a U.S. based publicly traded company. The dispute involved millions of dollars in damages arising from the unlawful termination of a contract for the manufacture of garments. Ravji successfully obtained an out-of-court settlement for the full contract amount owed to the garment manufacturers, plus attorneys’ fees and expenses.

  • Napo Pharmaceutical, Inc. v. Glenmark Pharmaceutical, Ltd. (American Arbitration Association, New York, New York) – Ravji as lead trial counsel for a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical company brought claims against an overseas generic drug manufacturer for failure to timely manufacture, commercialize, and distribute a licensed novel drug, and was successful in preventing the termination and nullification of the contract and compelled the specific performance of the contract.

 

Representative Transactional And Corporate Advisory Matters

  • Ravji represented an oil and gas exploration company in securing an exclusive petroleum sharing agreement with the Government of the Sultanate of Oman for onshore and offshore blocks.

  • Ravji represented an oil and gas exploration company through all phases of securing debt financing and political risk insurance policy through the United States International Development and Finance Corporation (f/k/a Overseas Private Investment Corporation).

  • Ravji represented a publicly traded holding and real estate REIT as the due diligence counsel in the acquisition of thirty-two commercial real estate for a total acquisition value of approximately $850 million.

  • Ravji represented several privately held commercial petroleum distribution companies with over 150 million gallons of annual distribution of refined petroleum products in an acquisition by an out-of-state publicly traded entity.

  • Ravji represented one of the largest retail distributor of prepaid calling cards with operations in all fifty states in matters relating to corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and transactional.

  • Ravji represented one of the largest international money transfer companies with business operations in all fifty states and South America.
